Jacob Peu’s quest to introduce his appreciation of wine into the mainstream market is a story of perseverance in turning a dream into reality. Only his entrepreneurial spirit and determination enabled him to successfully launch an unknown wine in such a difficult market. This short history of Jacob’s Quest Wines is truly a South African success story in the making.

Vineyard location:

Grown at the foot of the Great Winterhoek Mountains, around the town of Porterville in the Swartland Region.

The winemaking:

The grapes were harvested at between 24.5º and 26º Balling. Two vineyard blocks were cold soaked separately for two days. Each batch was fermented with a different yeast at 22°C (cool
ferment) for seven days to retain fruit flavours. After malolactic fermentation the wine was blended and aged in 3rd and 4th fill French Oak barrels for a period of 9 months.

Bouquet: Dark red fruit, chocolate and berry flavours.
Taste: Complex with well balanced tannins and a lingering finish.

The separation of an adolescent from the mother and subsequent re-introduction to the community as an adult after observing the many rituals and ceremonies that form part of this rite of passage, perfectly describes the wine making process with all the emotion attached to nurturing a child through to adulthood.

As winemakers, we are taking a step into the more serious side of the wine business by releasing this single varietal wine, demonstrating growth and expansion in our business.

Our Brand, Jacob's Quest ™ is entering a new phase being recognized as a wine brand aiming to satisfy consumers having a more sophisticated palate than our traditional market of the past. Our target group are evolving and we have to match their expectation by delivering more sophisticated and traditional varietal wines.

Jacob Peu (co-founder) continues his Quest to introduce and expose the wine in it's entirety to the mainstream market by taking the novice wine consumer a step further into the wonderful world of wine.

It was with a lot of anticipation that Jacob's Quest Wines(JQ) approached the first introduction of it’s wines to the people of the Southern Cape at the revamped Outeniqua Expo in George the past weekend.

Dit was met groot afwagting waarmee Jacob’s Quest Wyne(JQ) die bekendstelling van hul wyne by die nuwe Outenikwa Expo aan die mense van die Suid Kaap die afgelope naweek benader het.

Jacob's Quest(JQ) is met ope arms ontvang op die Vrystaatse dorp, Excelsior, tydens die onlangse Claerhout Fees.  Die gasvryheid van die plaaslike inwoners het herinner aan vervloë dae... of dalk was dit net JQ wat die beste in almal te voorskyn gebring het!

Jacob's Quest(JQ) was welcomed with open arms at the Free State town, Excelsior, during the recent Claerhout Festival. The hospitality of the locals reminded of days long gone by... or perhaps it was JQ which brought out the best in everybody!
